Neighborhood Safety Tips & C.O.P.S Program

Neighborhood Safety Tips

If there is ANY suspicious activity (even if nothing is disturbed or stolen) call “911” to report it to the Gwinnett County Police Department and notify the WOP HOA at whiteoakplacehoa@gmail.com

Protect your home from theft with these Safety Tips:

  1. Burglars HATE bright lights. Install outside lights and KEEP THEM ON at night. Motion-detector lights can be particularly effective.

  2. Check Your Locks. Make sure every external door has a strong, well installed dead bolt lock. Key- in-the-knob locks alone are not enough. Always keep your doors locked, even if your at home.

  3. Lock double-hung windows with key locks or “pin” your windows by drilling a small hole at a 45 degree angle between the inner and outer frames, then insert a nail that can be removed.

  4. Use curtains on garage and basement windows if possible.

  5. If you have a home alarm system, use it! Activate your alarm system — Alarm systems are only useful when you remember to activate them.

  6. You know your neighborhood and neighbors. If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call 9-1-1 immediately. Strangers running across you’re backyards, young adults with backpacks, people sitting in parked cars for a long period of time.

  7. While nothing is 100%, being vigilant and always aware of your surroundings can make a huge difference and may help the police in apprehending these criminals
